Accredited Courses

The Level 1 course will nurture you to become an Assistant Coach, while completing Level 2 will qualify you as an independent coach.

You can also access strength training and masterclasses to develop your overall knowledge of the sport. These courses offer an unrivalled standard of training, helping to build your own fitness career and benefit those you are coaching.

This course covers the basic skills and knowledge required to work as a General Purpose Security Dog Handler.

Security professionals who know how to handle dogs are a real asset to employers. This course, spread over 5 days, gives SIA licence holders extra knowledge and practical skills that help you stand out in the job market.

Following some in-depth learning, your instructor will take you through practical handling techniques that show you how to work with security dogs. That includes basic commands and control techniques, but also how to use a dog to assist you in searching premises and people.

You’ll also learn how to work with the animal most effectively, controlling their emotional state in the event of unexpected noises or aggressive behaviour from others.

These skills prove a massive advantage in security jobs that are a step more advanced, which means you’ll be investing in taking your security career to the next level. The course is completed with a written exam and certification.

The nationally recognized Level 3 Certificate for a General Purpose Security Dog Handler aims to provide the additional skills, knowledge and understanding required to ensure the provision of a higher level of professional service as a Security Dog Handler.

This qualification has been developed by NASDU to meet the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Security Dog Handling and the training requirements contained within BS 8517-1:2016.

The course is suitable for experienced General Purpose Security Dog Handlers who wish to advance their existing skills and to meet the requirements of the BS 8517-1: 2009 which recommends Security Dog Handlers undertake continuation training. It would also be suitable for members of HM Armed Forces, Police or Prison Service who wish to take on a General Purpose Security Dog Handler role.

The nationally recognised Level 3 Certificate for a Proactive Drug Detection Dog Handler aims to provide the learner with the basic skills, knowledge and understanding required to ensure the provision of a professional level of service as a Pro-active Drug Detection Dog Team.

This qualification has been developed by NASDU to meet the National Occupational Standards (NOS’s) for a Security Detection Dog Handler and the training requirements contained within BS 8517-2:2016, (in that) it is an assessment of the learners (handlers) ability to read the indications given by a dog and to meet the required performance criteria.

This programme meets the requirements of those learners who have experience as General Purpose Security Dog Handlers, Door Supervisors or Security Officers and wish to become Pro Active Drug Detection Dog Handlers. It would also be suitable for members of HM Armed Forces, Police, Prison Service or Customs Officers who wish to take on a Drug Detection Dog Handler role in the private security industry.

The NASDU Level 3 Tobacco Detection Dog Handler course is designed to teach individuals the necessary skills, understanding and knowledge to carry out tobacco detection dog searches in an operational environment.

The course  aims to provide handlers with the technical knowledge and practical experience to handle a trained Tobacco Detection Dog in a professional manner in keeping with industry expectations.

There are no prerequisites for this qualification however it is advised that learners have a level 1 in English (speaking and listening).

The NASDU (HABC Endorsed) Level 3 Certificate for a Bedbug Detection Dog Handler aims to provide the learner with the basic skills, knowledge and understanding required to ensure the provision of a professional level of service as a Bedbug Detection Dog Team.

This qualification whilst not a security discipline has been developed by NASDU (as an HABC Centre) in conjunction with a National Pest Control Company. It complements the National Occupational Standards(NOS’s) for a Security Detection Dog Handler and the training principals contained within BS8517-2:2010, (in that) it is an assessment of the learners (handlers) ability to read the indications given by a dog and to meet the required performance criteria.

This programme meets the requirements of those learners working in the private sector either in Pest Control or within the security industry working as Detection Dog Handlers. It would be also suitable for those in the public sector either in the Police, Prison Service or as a member of the HM Armed Forces working as a Detection Dog Handler who wish to take on a Bedbug Detection Dog Handler role in the private sector.

The nationally recognised Level 4 Certificate for Explosive Detection Dog Handlers aims to provide the learner with the basic skills, knowledge and understanding required to ensure the provision of a professional level of service as an Explosive Detection Dog Team.

This qualification has been developed by NASDU to meet the National Occupational Standards (NOS’s) for a Security Detection Dog Handler and the training requirements contained within BS 8517-2:2016, (in that) it is an assessment of the learners (handlers) ability to read the indications given by a dog and to meet the required performance criteria.

This programme meets the requirements of those learners who have experience as General Purpose Security Dog Handlers and wish to become Explosive Detection Dog Handlers. It would also be suitable for members of HM Armed Forces, Police, Prison Service or Customs Officers who wish to take on a Detection Dog Handler role in the private security industry.
